The place is really good. I love the idea of the minimalist concept of the building. They offer affordable menu with a good taste. They have a good toilet behind. Actually they will have second floor soon. The issues are about their narrow parking place. #localguides #letsguide
Overview
Walking into Fx Labs at Jl. Ahmad Yani No.121, Sananwetan, Kec. Sananwetan, Kota Blitar, Jawa Timur 66131, Indonesia feels like stepping into a modern hangout spot that somehow still keeps the warmth of a neighborhood diner. I stopped by on a late Friday afternoon after hearing several glowing reviews from friends in Blitar, and I quickly understood why this place keeps popping up in conversations about the best cafes and restaurants in town.
The location itself is easy to find, right along one of Blitar’s busiest streets. Parking is relatively convenient compared to other dining spots in the area, which is a real plus if you’re visiting during peak hours. From the outside, the design looks contemporary with industrial touches, while inside you’ll find a cozy blend of wooden furniture, exposed brick, and soft lighting. It’s the kind of setting that works just as well for casual meetings as it does for family dinners or even a solo coffee break.
Now let’s talk about the menu, because that’s where Fx Labs really stands out. Their offerings combine comfort food with creative twists. During my visit, I tried their signature rice bowl paired with grilled chicken and a house-made sauce. The balance of sweet, savory, and slightly smoky flavors was spot on. The texture of the rice was fluffy, not overcooked, and the chicken had that satisfying char you expect from proper grilling. According to food safety guidelines from the World Health Organization, proper cooking temperatures are essential for poultry, and it was clear from the tenderness and taste that the kitchen here understands those standards.
Another highlight was their specialty coffee. Indonesia is one of the world’s largest coffee producers, as reported by the International Coffee Organization, and local cafes have been stepping up their game. Fx Labs sources quality beans and applies precise brewing methods. I watched the barista use a digital scale and timer for a pour-over method, ensuring consistent extraction. For anyone unfamiliar, extraction refers to how water pulls flavors from coffee grounds; too fast and it tastes sour, too slow and it turns bitter. What I got in my cup was smooth, aromatic, and balanced, which tells me they know exactly what they’re doing.
What impressed me further was how the staff explained certain dishes. When I asked about a spicy pasta option, they broke down the ingredients and cooking method in detail. That level of transparency builds trust. In the restaurant industry, customer trust often hinges on clarity about ingredients and preparation, especially for diners with dietary restrictions. While the menu doesn’t fully cater to every special diet, there are lighter options like salads and non-fried snacks that make it easier to choose wisely.
Portion sizes are generous without being excessive. In my experience reviewing eateries across East Java, that balance is rare. Some places overload plates to impress, while others skimp to cut costs. Fx Labs seems to have found a middle ground, offering fair value for money. Prices align with mid-range dining in Blitar, making it accessible for students, office workers, and families alike.
The atmosphere also deserves attention. Music plays softly in the background, and the seating arrangement allows enough space between tables for private conversations. I noticed a group of university students working on laptops in one corner, while a small family celebrated a birthday nearby. That versatility is a strong indicator of a well-managed space. A good diner isn’t just about food; it’s about how people feel while they’re there.
Online reviews echo this sentiment. Many visitors praise the friendly service and consistent quality. Of course, no place is perfect. During peak hours, you might experience a slight delay in food arrival. However, from what I observed, the kitchen team handles the rush professionally without compromising presentation or taste.
Overall, Fx Labs has carved out a solid reputation in Blitar’s growing culinary scene. Between its thoughtfully crafted menu, strategic location, and welcoming vibe, it’s more than just another cafe on Ahmad Yani Street. It’s a reliable spot where good food, proper technique, and genuine hospitality come together in a way that keeps people coming back for more.

The chicken popcorn are 10/10, perfect and super delicious to my personal taste (I ordered one with teriyaki sauce). The irish coffee is good. Vibes are warm even in cold post-rain weather. My single complain are if you state in the menu (also pictured) that the chicken popcorn are to be served with poached/half-cooked egg, please do so. I however really appreciate how the waitress offered me a new dish with proper egg as compensation following my complaint that the egg was well done. Her kindness was satisfying I rejected the offer instead. 4/5 because muzak selection doesn't match my preference but overall the food, beverages, and services are excellent.
Nice and cozy place, appropriate for hangout and meet up with friends. Tasty food and very refreshing drinks.
I'm quite ambivalent on this one. FX Labs is surely a great place to waste your spare time. The serving time was incredibly brisk. The price is incredulously cheap. It is lavishly decorated with excellent placement of lights here and there, hanging flowers all around. The coffee was enjoyable to say the least. And it has some je ne sais quoi that i can't even begin to explain. Yet it falls short on some of the most crucial aspects. The place felt some kind of hollow. The music choice was horrible. I would have been a permanent fixture if not for this below par atmosphere. P.S : if i recalled correctly, there was a cafe in Malang called FX Labs in Jl. Panderman. Was that owned by the same people who manage this place?
nice place to hanging out with your crush, fams even friends My fav single origin is here (sugar cane, brown sugar notes). Love to doing WFH in here too. So cozy. Five stars from me
Cozy resto n friendly staffs.. i like their chicken katsu teriyaki, good taste, but too much mayonaisse, a little bit sour.. overall.. i ll come again because this resto has a good position , nearby my senior high school :)
